I have been practicing yoga for about 3 years now, and i love it. I am sick of my 9-5 office job. I was wondering how much the average yoga teacher makes per year and if you get any health benefits? Can you live on a yoga teacher’s salary. or do you need multiple jobs?

Question by Vincent L: What is the difference between yoga and pilates?
I really know nothing of the two other than that they are similar in some ways and different in others. I would like to have some sort of exercise I can do at home since I won’t have as much free time to go to the gym anymore. I would like to do exercises that tone my body overall. Gaining strength would be nice but it’s not as important. I’ve heard that yoga is more about stress release and meditation but can it also be used as a workout? Thanks for the help!

Question by Mab: What is a good guided intermediate yoga dvd?
I have done yoga before, and I am looking for a dvd(NOT FOR BEGINNERS) more of an intermediate, do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by BabeHeart
I really like Yoga for Energy with Rodney Yee (I think I got the name of it right). It’s got no instruction, just tells you which pose to move into…it’s in 5 sections so you can do any or all when you feel the need.

I really like it, but when I first got it I had to pay attention, and sometimes they’d move from one pose to another faster than I was accustomed to, having only used beginner videos/dvds prior to that.

Here’s a link to it so you can see it and read the description…if you decide to buy, definitely price shop (I’ve found really good deals on Amazon and eBay on DVDs in the past).

Question by Kirby: How to avoid passing out in yoga class?
I’ve almost passed out in the past 3 yoga classes I’ve gone too- my vision gets really dark, and my hearing starts to fade- like a really bad head rush! It’s embarrassing to revert to the child’s pose when everyone else is doing what they’re supposed to. How can I avoid this? My instructor said that it may have to do with low blood pressure– how could I change that? I am breathing normally too- so I don’t think that’s it.

Best answer:

Question by Robert: How is yoga different then just stretching?
If I do yoga, will I get the same benefit if I exercise (do good exercise), and I stretch? If I stretch for like 30 secs at least with each… well, whatever it is that you are stretching when you stretch, then will that be the same as yoga? Or do I need to go and learn a bunch of postures and not just stretch?

Best answer:

Answer by Dances with Buddha
In my opinion…. if you simply desire the physical benefits of stretching, then I believe there is little benefit in doing yoga postures over doing “normal” stretching.
For those wanting just stretching I have long recommended Bob Anderson’s classic book: http://www.amazon.com/Stretching-20th-Anniversary-Revised-Anderson/dp/0936070226

The one place I see yoga postures being better than normal stretching (from a purely physical perspective) is that IF you do a well rounded mixture of yoga postures, it will not only develop flexibility, but also balance and some strength*
Sun Salutations (aka Surya Namaskar) are an excellent yoga technique to develop core strength.

Namaste’

* but not to degree of dramatic muscle bulk; if that’s what you want, go for strength training (weight lifting).

Question by pocky sticks: What is the controversy with Christianity and yoga?
People have been saying that being a Christian and doing yoga is dangerous.
Why is that?
Is it alright for me to use yoga as a tool to get in shape?
So as long as I use it JUST as a tool to get in shape, it’s alright?
Cause I really want to stick to my faith.
And the sarcastic answers are not appreciated so if you want to be sarcastic, then go be sarcastic somewhere else cause it is not welcome here.
